What We’re Shopping for in October

Hi, it’s Megan!

I don’t know about you, but Halloween season has always been one of my favorite times of year. Growing up, my parents went all out with our family costumes - it was a full group effort, sometimes even my grandparents joined in. We always made our costumes by hand and those creative, chaotic evenings of hot glue and fabric scraps are still some of my favorite Halloween memories!

Now as a mom, I find myself wanting to create that same sense of fun and togetherness for my own kids - the excitement of planning, crafting and celebrating something purely for the joy of it. It’s a reminder that Halloween doesn’t have to be just about candy or decorations; it’s about the memories that come from doing it all together.

Now that my kids are old enough to really enjoy trick-or-treating and all the festive fun, October has become a month packed with memory-making. Between costume planning (my toddlers are very into dinosaurs right now, so we’re going all in on a Jurassic Park theme this year), pumpkin carving, and neighborhood walks admiring everyone’s spooky decorations, we’re soaking up every bit of it.

There’s something about the mix of cozy and festive this time of year - crisp air, pumpkins on porches, little ones in costume, and the smell of pumpkin bread baking in the oven - that makes this month feel extra magical.

At home, I love adding small, seasonal touches that make everything feel festive without a lot of fuss - a flickering candle here, a warm throw there, and a few whimsical details that nod to Halloween while being effortless and timeless.

A Few Favorites for a Festive Home

  • Spider web candy bowl - Vintage-inspired and perfectly spooky, this spider web bowl adds a chic Halloween touch to any table or display.

  • Kid-friendly baking tools - my toddlers and I love cooking together and Halloween is one of my favorites to make festive dishes for. A few I’m planning on making this year are these peanut butter spider cookies, slice and bake ghost cookies and these pumpkin muffins.

  • Adorable treat bags and gift tags for gifting fall treats to neighbors.

  • Flying bats - I’ve had these bats for many years now and every year it’s my favorite quick and easy decor item to put up. It can quickly transform a whole room to be on theme without much work and is super simple to take down. I put them around my tv so I use this frame tv image to complete the look.

This time of year is also one of my favorites for cooking and gathering - whether it’s a spooky-sweet dinner party with friends or a family chili night after trick-or-treating. I love cooking those warm, full of spice and flavor dishes and am drawn to tables that feel warm, textural and a touch on theme without being overdone.

Here are a few things I’m shopping for this season’s Halloween tablescapes:

  • Bat candle pins love these pins that you can put on any taper candle to turn it into a Halloween candle. Plus they’re reusable each year!

  • Linen napkins in burnt orange, I like that these can be used through the fall season and you can simply tie a black velvet ribbon around them for a subtle Halloween nod.

  • Ghost candy dishes perfect accessory to your everyday dishes on a table or to display on side tables.

  • Seasonal centerpiece ideas, like a bowl of mini pumpkins, persimmons, or even foraged branches from the yard. I recently cut down some hydrangeas from my backyard and dried them out so I would have a centerpiece that lasts me all season.

  • And of course, fun drinkware I love these ones from Target, so many options too!

We’ve rounded up a few of these finds and more in our Halloween Tablescape Edit in the TableWith Shop if you’re looking for inspiration or want to shop the look.

As the days get shorter, we naturally slow down and spend more time around the table - whether it’s for a quick weeknight dinner or a Halloween-themed supper with friends. That’s what I love most about this season: it reminds us to gather, connect, and celebrate the small moments.

At TableWith, that’s exactly what we’re all about - making it easy to bring people together through food. If you haven’t already, download the TableWith app and plan a cozy cookbook club night this season. We’ll take care of the planning and recipes so you can focus on the fun part (the gathering).

Here’s to a season of pumpkin bread baking, costumes and memory-making with the people you love most.

Happy Halloween!
- Megan
